Itinerary

Day 1

7AM Pick up at your hotel or pre-determined location in San Isidro de El General (3 hours South of San Jose). Today, we will be driving a 4x4 road for approximately 2 hours. This road takes us through some small, beautiful pueblos. We continue on and reach a high point where on a clear day you will see the Pacific Ocean and the highest point in Costa Rica, Vólcan Chirripó. We'll reach the pueblo of Brujo, and begin our hiking phase into the rain forest.

Day 2

Most likely you will wake up to Doña Flor, the mother of 18 children, singing while preparing your traditional Costa Rican breakfast. After eating gallo pinto, fruit, and hot chocolate, get ready to experience a 120 foot waterfall from a new perspective, by rappelling it!

Explore the depths of the rich Rio Savegre valley. Stalagmites and stalactites abound, we hike to a 900 foot deep cave nestled in the side of the mountain.

Day 3

Enjoy the sunrise and watch the clouds dance in the green valley of Piedras Blancas. The morning will be calling with the fresh smells of another traditional, home-cooked meal.

Today you will be spending time with Don Ormidas. His laughter and friendly smiles will guide you through the process of making sugar from home-grown sugarcane from the farm. Get your arms ready, the traditional hand drawn 'trapiche' is a great workout to get the bucket full of sweet sugar juice.

Day 4

Hiking boots back on, we go into the rain forest once more, one our way to the Fonsecas adventure retreat. Our 2 1/2 hour journey brings us to magical place right next to the Rio Savegre. Perched above the Rio Savegre with ideal views of the rapids below, and the tree line up to the river, this adventure retreat is full of activities. Possible activities include: traditional sweat lodge, medicinal plant tour and lesson, homemade chocolate from scratch, tree climb, and canopy over the Rio Savegre.

Day 5

Wake up to the rushing sounds of the river and rapids below. Take a stretch on the expansive deck at the Fonsecas, and get ready for a one hour hike to the pueblo of Brujo where we begin our 20 kilometer rafting trip down the Rio Savegre.

Geared up and ready to go, we traverse down the winding Rio Savegre. As the sun peaks up through the valley, the occasional splash of water is refreshing and awakening. Listen to the guides commands as we paddle hard through the class III rapids of this pristine river. Fresh fruit, sandwiches, and our famous 'river cheesecakes' prepared on the best kitchen table out there; on the raft.
